Za'Reeha Lee-Bates, lovingly known as “Beanie” by family and friends, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Harrisburg Hospital after battling with a long list of illnesses.
Za'Reeha was born June 9thth, 1997, to Tenisha and Michael Lee.
She is survived by her mother Tenisha White; stepdad Booker Bates; grandparents Thelma Brown/Gilbert White and Esther Bates; her brothers, Michael White and Booker Bates III; her niece Sariyah and nephew Namir; her aunt Cassandra White; cousin Karla White; and uncles Mario Bates Sr., Brian Lee, and Elliot Lee; and numerous cousins.
Beanie was a distinguished student and graduated with honors from John Harris High school in 2018. She was very active with helping in the classroom and was a messenger carrier for the school office. During that time, she received many accolades for her dedicated service. As a participant in the Special Olympics from 2007 to 2018, Beanie received numerous ribbons and awards for her achievements.
Beanie enjoyed shopping, cooking, bowling, video games, traveling, and golfing. She was also fond of watching sports and eating chicken wings with her dad. Beanie loved listening to and singing gospel music. One of her biggest joys was spending time with her mother riding her scooter around City Island while feeding the birds and eating pretzels and ice cream.
Despite her numerous illnesses, Beanie was one the happiest people in the world. She was a beacon of hope, inspiring everyone she came across. Her presence lit up the room, putting a smile on the faces of all those present. Her beautiful personality and smile brought so much joy to those she loved and encountered.
Beanie's final days were spent surrounded by her faithful and loving parents. Beanie touched the lives of family and friends throughout her short, yet very memorable life. As such, she was often in the prayers and thoughts of many. Beanie's life might seem too short to many, but those whom she touched understood that the quality of her existence far exceeds the quantity of time she lived.
Beanie loved the Lord, and the Lord loved her. Although her whole life was spent battling health issues, she provided all who encountered her with courage, hope, and strength. Her presence reminded everyone of the preciousness of life and what true faith looked like. Beanie will truly be missed.
