Willis Ethelbert McCoy was born on Saturday, December 20, 1947, to the late Steven (Tee) Willis McCoy and Martha (Lil) Elizabeth McCoy in Appomattox, Virginia.
On Thursday, October 11, 2024, at 11:47 PM, at his home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with his son, Steve, by his side, his Heavenly Father called him unexpectedly from his earthly body to enter into eternal rest.
He received his formal education in the Appomattox County Public School system. Upon graduation in 1965, he entered the United States Army, where he served during the Vietnam War. He retired from Conrail, formally known as the Consolidated Rail Corporation, on December 1, 1999.
He answered the Lord’s calling by joining the Mount Airy Baptist Church at a young age. Throughout the years, he enjoyed watching Televangelist. His hobbies included fishing, playing cards, and collecting Hess Trucks. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on his porch in the company of his neighbors and friends. He especially cherished the moments spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Jaunita; four brothers Seibert, Calvin, Michael, and Richard; sister-in-law Joan McCoy; two nephews, Calvin McCoy, Jr. and Matthew Litchford; and special cousins Laura Mae Pittman and Bonnie Weatherly.
He leaves to celebrate his life and precious memories with his children, Carla Thompson, Martha (Marti) McCoy, and Steven McCoy of Harrisburg, PA, Jason Ferguson and Mary Ferguson of Rock Hill, SC and Charles Christen of Appomattox, VA; son-in-law Larry Thompson, Jr., of Harrisburg, PA; two bonus sons Victor Paredes of Harrisburg, PA and Ronnie Ferguson of Rock Hill, SC; his brothers, Bernis McCoy of Rock Hill, SC, Tony McCoy of Appomattox, VA and Donnie Scruggs of Amherst, VA; his sister Uwana (Lulu) Litchford of Appomattox, VA; a special friend Sonya McCoy of Harrisburg, PA; sisters-in-law Jacquetta McCoy of Harrisburg, PA, Judy McCoy and Ann McCoy of Appomattox, Va; brothers-in-law Lloyd (L.C.) Litchford of Appomattox, VA; his beloved grandchildren Shaquaè, D’Andrè, Janaeh, Larry (Trè), Quincy, Goddess, Zeus, London, Dayvonne, and Amaliz; his dearly loved great-grandchildren Xier, Cristyn, D’Arri, and Shiloh; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
