Walter Ross Dockens, Sr., affectionately known as “Dirty Red” went home to glory in the arms of angels in the presence of his family on October 22, 2021 at the age of 88.
Born on Wednesday, May 3, 1933, in Harrisburg PA, he was the son of the late John Ross Hughes and the late Vernie Dockens. In 1951, Walter met the love of his life, Patricia Ellen Devan, the following year they were married in Holy Matrimony. Their union was blessed with six children, five daughters and one son. He was employed by Central PA Material Center, Visually Handicap, PA Material Resource Center, City of Harrisburg, Dauphin County Courthouse, and AMP, Inc.
Walter was the widower of Patricia E. Dockens. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his grandson Alonzo Brodie and great granddaughter Tiana Dockens.
Walter leaves to cherish precious memories of him: 8 daugthers, Diane Jones (Sam), Wanda R.D. Williams (Jerome), Leslie Roberson (Rick, Sr.,), of Asheboro, NC, Darla Hopkins (Michael) of Dayton, Ohio, Annette Brown (Ralph Adolph), Carlene U. Banks, Rick (Iris) Williams, Kim Belle, 6 sons; Rev. Walter R. Dockens, Jr., (Aigner), Rickey Banks, (Alvise), Kevin Belle (Marie), Ralph Belle(Cindy), Lorenzo Bell and Lynwood Belle all of Harrisburg.
His memory will also be honored by his 43 grandchildren, 107 great grandchildren, 33 great great grandchildren. A special cousin, Connie Maddox, and an adopted family Becky Newsome and family. Two loving friends, Jerome and Sally Miller, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
