Sidney K. West - Beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend
Sidney K. West, better known as "Sid", a cherished man of strength, knowledge, and compassion, peacefully departed from this world on February 11, 2024, in Harrisburg, PA, at the age of 78. Born on December 3, 1945, in Mt. Union, PA, to the late Richard C. and Margret (Carroll) West. Sid was a graduate of the infamous Captain Jack High School in Mt. Union, PA.
Sid graced the world with his presence and left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched with a heart filled with kindness and a mind brimming with curiosity. Sidney pursued an Associate's Degree in Information Technology from Penn State where he worked and took classes, representing his unwavering commitment to education and growth. He applied his skills to the healthcare industry, serving as a dedicated IT professional at Blue Shield. His work not only provided technical solutions but also directly impacted countless lives within the community. Known for his warm smile and gentle nature, he fostered meaningful connections with his family, friends, and colleagues. Sid's passion for life extended far beyond the boundaries of his career.
He was a member of I.B.P.O.E. of W. (Elks) Lodge #702 and was a former member of the Mt. Hope Baptist Church where he received his Christian education. He loved the Lord and accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. Sid spent his daytime hours watching game shows and talking with friends and family on the phone. He loved making others happy and would do anything he could to help.
Sid was preceded in death by his wife Carol West, brother Shan West, and cousin Dianne McDaniel. To cherish his memories, Sid leaves behind his daughters, Jakki Altice (Michael) and Karla West, granddaughter Mackenzie Altice, who held a special place in his heart, and his sister, Elana West, who remained an unwavering source of support throughout his journey. Nurturing a close relationship with his brother-in-law, Wendell Whitlock, nephews, Cordell Whitlock, Michael Holmes, and Sidney Holmes, God son, Adam Mitchell, and extended family and friends. Sid treasured every moment spent together, creating memories that will be cherished for generations to come.
Sid will forever be remembered for his unwavering love, his wise counsel, annual Labor Day cookout, and the genuine warmth he exuded to all who had the privilege to know him. Although our hearts ache with his absence, we find solace in the countless memories he leaves behind. May his spirit guide us as we navigate life's challenges with the same grace and compassion he exemplified. Rest in eternal peace, dear Sidney, knowing that you have left an enduring legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire us all.
