Sarah Austin (née Perry), daughter of the late Mamie Scurry and Willie Gibson, was born in Saluda, SC on December 16, 1940. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mount Zion A. M. E. Church in Chappells, SC. Sarah graduated from Riverside High School, Saluda, SC in 1958. From her marriage to James Austin, she had one daughter, Theresa Austin. After moving to Harrisburg, PA, she attended Harrisburg Area Community College where she learned computer programming. Working as a Computer Programmer and Systems Analyst for the State of Pennsylvania, she continued to achieve certifications and additional training. After retiring from the State, she continued working as a computer consultant for many years. Sarah loved the LORD and was a faithful worshipper in the church. She was a Sunday School teacher and conducted the children's choir (The Buds) at Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church and took a leadership role in the Women's Ministry of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Prior to becoming ill, she enjoyed taking trips to various places in the United States, the Caribbean, and France. She was a great family historian and kept detailed records and pictures along with the family tree.
Sarah went home to be with the LORD on May 22, 2014. She was preceded in death by her sisters Emma Lee Mance, Lessie B. Farrow, Amanda Perry, Irene Watts, Louise Jacobs, Mary Williams, Marjorie (Doll) Perry and brothers James (Beau) Clark and Coley (Son) Clark. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Austin from Wynnewood, PA, her sister, Mamie T. Suber from Norristown, PA, and a host of dearly beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
