Ruth Marshall Smith

Ruth C. Smith was the daughter of Rev. Sherman and Melinda Marshall. She was next to the youngest of nine children. Ruth was born in Harrisburg, Pennsyl-vania, on April 21, 1933. She fell peacefully asleep on Monday, August 6, 2007. Ruth was the product of the public school system, in the Susquehanna School District, Harrisburg, PA. Ruth was saved at an early age and enjoyed the activities of her church. She was a lifetime, active member of the Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church. Ruth served on the following board and organizations: Trustee Board, Steward Board (pastor's steward and steward pro tem.), Choir, Missionary (president) and the Lay organization. One of Ruth's favorite projects was providing a nourishing meal for persons affected by AIDS. She enjoyed traveling and family gatherings. Ruth retired from the Commonwealth of PA, Department of Health and Welfare. Ruth's faith was magnanimous and her personality was bright as the sun. She never complained or murmured about her failing health. Instead, Ruth thanked God for her many blessings. She will be sorely missed by extended family and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings, Curtis (Valeria) Marshall, Augustine (Edward) Young, Eurella (George) Lewis, Joseph Marshall, Essie (Alex) Hunt, and her husbands, Glen Taylor and Robert Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted daughter, Mrs. Dianna (Kenneth) Brown; two grandchildren, Felice and Sherman Taylor; five great grandchildren, Shannice, Heaven, Jamie, Raymon, and Messiah. She also leaves three loving sisters, Fannie (Bob) Johnson, Addie (Van) Hawkins and Shirlee Winfield (James) and a host of relatives and friends. A tribute to her life will be held at 12 p.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church, 2334 Highland Avenue, Harrisburg, PA, where she will be eulogized by Rev. Dr. Gwyndolyn Allen, pastor. On behalf of the family the Hooper Memorial Home wishes to thank all of you for your prayers and all expressions of love.
