Pearl L. Bryant

Pearl Lee Bryant, a radiant soul whose kindness and faith touched all who knew her, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on February 11, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on July 5, 1946, in Little Rock, Mississippi, Pearl was the cherished daughter of the late John W. Thames and Lee Velma Thames.

Pearl's journey began in Little Rock, but it was in Harrisburg, PA, where she cultivated lifelong bonds and met her beloved husband, Howard Bryant. Together, they embarked on a journey marked by love, faith, and unwavering commitment.

Throughout her life, Pearl's heart overflowed with love for her family, her community, and her church. A graduate of William Penn High School's class of 1964, Pearl's faith journey led her to the N. 17th Street Church of God, where she served as a dedicated choir member, usher, and Sunday school teacher. Her voice, a vessel of her faith, not only graced the congregation of N. 17th Street Church of God but also the Harrisburg Brethren in Christ Church, where her faith continued to inspire those around her, and she found solace and community later in life.

Pearl's spirit of service extended far beyond the church walls. She was a beacon of warmth and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her daughters, Angelita Bryant and Teresa Watkins, and her grandson, Christian Watkins, were the lights of her life, and she poured her heart into nurturing and supporting them every step of the way. She cherished every moment spent with Christian, whether they were shopping for dinosaurs at A.C. Moore or embarking on adventures aboard Amtrak.

In addition to her devotion to her family, Pearl was a talented seamstress whose creations adorned her home and brought joy to those around her. She found immense joy in crafting matching outfits for her daughters, sewing her own clothes, and creating beautiful window treatments for Teresa's homes. Her Fourth of July celebrations were legendary, a testament to her generous spirit and love of fellowship. Year after year, she opened her home to friends and family, treating them to delicious food and creating cherished memories that will endure for generations to come.

While we mourn Pearl's passing, we take comfort in the knowledge that she is reunited with her parents, John W. Thames and Lee Velma Thames, and her siblings Cynthia Thames, Essie Smith, Laura Stevens, J.W. Thames, and Erven Thames who preceded her in death. She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Pearl's memory will be forever cherished by her devoted husband, Howard Bryant; her daughters, Angelita Bryant and Teresa Watkins (Aubrey Watkins III); her grandson, Christian Watkins; her sisters, Katie Hickman, Geraldine Steele, Lessie White, Mary Hearn, and Martha Thames; her brother, Kermit Thames; and a host of other relatives and friends whose lives she touched with her boundless love and kindness.

As we reflect on Pearl's remarkable life, we are reminded of the impact one person's kindness, generosity, and faith can have on the world. Her song may have faded in this realm, but the echoes of her love will resound eternally. Let us remember Pearl's enduring legacy of love, faith, and service, and strive to carry forth her light in our own lives.
