Odessol C. Whittington, 94 of Harrisburg, received a message from the Lord that it was time to come home on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents John and Bertha Whittington and born on August 5, 1928 in Marion Station, Maryland. The family attended John Wesley United Methodist Church.
Odessol graduated from Crisfield High School in Maryland and later graduated from Virginia State Jones Employment Agency in Harlem in 1949. She later moved to Philadelphia joining the Haven Memorial United Methodist Church and started her career with the federal government in May of 1953. Odessol had built an impeccable resume with 20 years of dedicated service. In 1973 she received a promotion and went to ESO, outside of Chicago, and later, a promotion back to the east coast at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot as a Parts Control Analyst with special clearance.
Odessol never ventures far without the Lord by her side. She was a faithful and God-fearing woman of the church. If one was to describe her walk of faith, she was known for her warm spirit and her power in prayer, telling folks that “God loves you and turns your life over to the Lord so I can see you again.” In 1974 she became a member of St. Paul’s Missionary Baptist Church serving as a Trustee, an Usher, and on the Financial Ministry.
Odessol’s later years were just as inspiring. She worked at Boscov’s in almost every department, greeting and helping people. She enjoyed traveling all over the county with her son. She served over 10 years with Meals on Wheels and was active and hands-on with the theater, enjoying the arts, music, church events and concerts. She took serving others to a whole new level. Her motto was, I hope that I was able to help or be of assistance to those that need a welcoming smile or a hug or a word of encouragement.
Odessol leaves to celebrate her life and memory her devoted son, Kevin Knight and a host of extended family members, her church family, and many special friends.
