Mary E. White-Effinger passed peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Collinsville, Mississippi with her family by her side. Mary was reared and educated in Mississippi, the eldest of seven children born to the late Bessie Emerson-Chisolm and Cuba Chisolm. Mary retired from the Harrisburg State Hospital, she was an active member of North 17th Street Church of God, amongst other duties she was also the Church's Chef and she loved Culinary Arts, gardening and sewing. Mary E. White-Effinger is survived by her husband, Charles Effinger,her 4 children; Charles White, Queen Esther Johnson, Sara K. Brooks and Milford White (Genevieve) all of Harrisburg, 6 siblings; Margie Williams, Kathleen Waller, Bennie, Alfred and Cicero Chisolm of Harrisburg and Jonnie Pearl Spriggs of California. She was preceded in death by a brother Willie E. Chisolm and is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Services in her honor will be held in her church, 615 N. 17th Street on Friday, May 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m. with burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
