Mother Mary Agnes Britton Easton was born on September 25, 1925 in Washington, Georgia to the late George and Reesie Powell Britton. She was one of nine siblings. Mother Easton went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 27, 2009.
Mary, Mae White as she was called by family, was educated in the public school district of Washington, DC. She was introduced to holiness at the Way of the Cross Church under the leadership of Bishop H.C. Brooks. As a teenager she was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost. Mary met her husband, the late Bishop John Easton, who was a member of the Way of the Cross Church. They were married on April 25, 1945. Through their union they were blessed with 12 children.
Mary worked for many years outside the home and she retired from the Harrisburg State Hospital in 1989 after 20 years of service.
Mother Easton was a lover of flowers and music. Her home stayed filled with growing plants throughout the year and she attended to them daily. On any given day you could hear her gospel music playing loudly from her home and she greatly enjoyed listening to "Echoes of Glory."
Mother Mary Easton worked tirelessly beside her husband as they labored and established the Open Door Church of Christ. She was the mother of the church until the Lord took her home. Mother Easton often said that she never met a stranger. Her spirit of love was a great draw of people as she worked in the church. She worked diligently for the Lord and always maintained a positive and loving disposition.
