Mary Elizabeth Ridgeway Chivis, age 85,born of the late Numa Napper and Clara Ridgway, a resident of Harrisburg, PA, and formerly of Dover, Delaware (DE), peacefullytransitioned into eternal life on Saturday, October, 8 2016 at the Spring Creek Nursing Home.
Educated in Dover, DE,labeled and reared as a Moor, her heritage originates from the Leni Lenape natives. She was joyously employed as a seamstress at Sandes and Sons in New Cumberland, best known as anoutstanding cook at the old Andyâs Grill at 6th and Boyd Sts in Hbg;worked at Hershey Foods, the American Can Co, and enjoyed 35 years of retirement from the Geriatric Nursing Unit of the Harrisburg State Hospital.
United in holy matrimony to the late Walker Howard Chivis, Jr., shereared six children. She enjoyed singing, shopping, beaches, spending time with neighbors, playing the lottery and will be remembered for her sweet sense of humor, outstanding culinary skills, and unconditional love freely givento others.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryn (Kat) E. Chivis-Agent; son, Charles G. (Gagie) Chivis; granddaughter, Cathy Bonner; and grandson, Walker Chad Chivis.
Mary leaves to cherish their memories, her sons, Howard W. Chivis, Ronnie (Marie/Peggy); daughters, Clara L. Chivis, Angel J. Evans (David); son-in law, Cornelius C. Agent, all of Harrisburg, daughter-in-law, Rosalind Congo, of Sicklerville, NJ; sister-in-law, Mary A. Chivis-Keys, of Harrisburg;brother-in-lawâs, Samuel L. Chivis of DC, and Memphis B. (Merle) of Harrisburg; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grands; four great-great grands; aunt(Ruth) of Augusta, GA; special cousin, Helen Pitts-Washington of Harrisburg; and a host of other relatives and friends. The Rev. Edward Hinton, Jr., will officiate.
