Marva Jean Queen

Marva Jean Queen, daughter of the late James Queen and the late Dorothy Weatherly, was born on December 20, 1951, in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Marva graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1969 and fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse, earning her Nursing Degree from the Harrisburg-Steelton Highspire Vo-Tech Program of Practical Nursing in 1983. She dedicated many years of service at Hamilton Health Center.

Marva found joy in simple pleasures such as sipping Pepsi, enjoying cigs, and exploring yard sales. However, her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family, dining at Red Lobster, and taking bus trips to Atlantic City. She had a deep affection for dolphins and took pride in researching her family’s history.

Marva Jean Queen peacefully departed this life at her home in Steelton, Pennsylvania, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

In addition to her parents, Marva was preceded in death by her siblings Gertrude Queen, Doreen Queen, Dorothy Queen-Robinson, Joseph Queen, Johnny Queen, and James Queen. She leaves to celebrate her life her sons Marcus Bates of Harrisburg and Demond Bates (Toya) of Oberlin, Pennsylvania; sisters Donna Queen and Lynette Queen, both of Harrisburg; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and Patricia Marks-Colbert, a special friend, as well as many loving family members and friends.
