Queen Margaret Elizabeth Hume (Alphonso) 86 of Harrisburg PA, entered eternal life on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg Hospital surrounded by her family and friends. She is the daughter of the late Harold and Celestine Alphonso (Crummel).
Margie, as she was affectionately known, retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation after 25 years. She greeted everyone with her infectious smile. She received many awards and acknowledgements for her friendly and professional services. Margie was known for being one of the best cooks in the city. If Margie wasn’t cooking in Les & Tiny’s kitchen you could find her in her own kitchen. She loved cooking for her family and having them together. Her family was her entire world. Margie’s macaroni and cheese were enough to bring anyone together.
Margie was a die-hard sports fan, supporting the Washington Redskins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and University of Kentucky Wildcats just to name a few. Two of her favorite players were Michael Jordan and LeBron James. You could find Margie flipping game to game every Sunday. During the week you could find her watching her game shows, Family Feud being her favorite.
Margie was an avid member of the American Legion Post #733. She enjoyed being with her family and friends. You could see this diva coming a mile away with her stylish clothes. Margie always made sure her shoes, pocketbook, and jewelry were all matching every outfit. Her nails and hair stayed flawless; she never left the house out of place. Margie was also a volunteer at the Polyclinic Hospital. Margie loved to travel, especially with her former club “The Highlights”.
Margie married her high school sweetheart Bobby, and they were blessed to have a 67-year union.
Along with her parents, Margie is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, John H. Gilcrist and niece, Andrea Gilcrist. From Margie to Bobby’s union she leaves to celebrate her life, her four children; Celestine Page, Robert Hume Jr. (Marva), Connice Hume, Timothy Hume Sr. (Lynda), Eight grandchildren; Yvette Wright, Leslie Dixon, (Kevin), William Page, LaTonia Wall, Monica Smith (Steve), Robyn Seville, Timothy Hume Jr. (LaPortia) and Tierra Hume, nine great-grandchildren; Jazmin Wright, Paige Dixon, Nyreke Wall, Talik Wall, Robert Seville Jr., Rakhi Seville, La’el Fredrick, Tajh Hume and Teigen Hume, her two siblings; a sister who was absolutely her best friend in Joan Gilcrist and a beloved little brother who she adored, Jesse Alphonso Sr. (Connice), all of Harrisburg, PA., two sister in-laws; Margaret Dickey (Peter) of Harrisburg, PA and Gwendolyn Williams of Towson, MD., devoted friends; Barbara Baltimore, Lillian Hairston, Katherine Little, Connie Lewis, Keith Thompson and a host of relatives and friends. Everyone who crossed paths with Ms. Margie loved her, she will be missed by many.
Margie had a saying she instilled in her grandchildren: “Don’t take no wooden nickels”.
