Lonnie Alfonzo Griffin, born January 16, 1949 to the late Jackson Griffin and Olivia Barksdale-Griffin entered into eternal rest on August 3, 2009.
Lonnie attended Saint Patrick's Cathedral School and graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1968, serving tours of duty in Vietnam, Japan, Guam, the Falklands, the Persian Gulf and several other countries. He was a decorated U.S. Navy Serviceman with twenty-three years of honorable service having received the Vietnam Combat Action Ribbon on May 21, 1969; Naval Achievement Medal; Navy Good Conduct Award; and Certificate of Appreciation Award for helping to maintain the security of the United States of America.
He attended Saint Patrick's Cathedral Church and Saint Catherine Laboure Church.
Affectionately remembered by his family and friends for his stylish dress, Lonnie was an avid reader who enjoyed poetry and reading the bible. He often watched TV Evangelist Ministers and discussed sermon messages with his sister, Connie. In addition, he was a passionate sports fan. Lonnie was well remembered for his fantastic high school football years. He also enjoyed cooking Asian cuisine and keeping his apartment neatly decorated.
He leaves behind to cherish precious memories, his loving daughter, Olivia Asuka Griffin-Foote; his son-in-law, Rick Foote and grandson, Rixon of Pittsburgh, PA.
His brother, Robert Kedar Griffin of Harrisburg, PA; his sisters: Betty Griffin-Weathers of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Connie Franklin-Frisby of Harrisburg, PA. Also, his lifetime friend, mentor, and football buddy, Leonard (Dink) LeMelle. His loving cousins: James (Buster) Barksdale and Christine George of Harrisburg, PA and James (Coffey) George of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Our beloved Lonnie is "Eternal in Spirit" and Forever in our Hearts!
