Leora D. Reid, 79, passed peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2009 in Colonial Park Care Center. She was born October 15, 1929 to the late Blain Young and Tennie Butler Young in Highpoint, North Carolina. As a child she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and after graduating from William Penn High School, Leora moved to Harrisburg where she met and married her late husband, James Reid, they were married 55 years. Leora received a business degree from Thompson Institute; however she never worked outside the home. She was a great babysitter, a good cook and enjoyed her stories. Leora was a member of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years, a past member of the choir, and before her health failed, she was a member of the Golden Years Ministry. She leaves to cherish her life and memory a loving daughter Kay (Reid) Childs and husband Sam, one son John Reid and wife Sandy both of Harrisburg, a brother Nathaniel Young of High Point, NC, 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grand children and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held at her church, 212 N. Progress Ave., on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m. and internment at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family is appreciative for your many acts of kindness and love shown to them during their time of bereavement. Hooper Memorial Home is caring for and handling Ms. Reid's arrangements.
