Leona D. Jones

Leona Jones was born to the late Leona Benjamin & Emmit Davis in Ty Ty (Bibb County), GA, on October 4, 1927. She departed this earthly life peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2025, at 3:47 AM to enter her eternal resting place.

She was the loving mother of three children: Pastor Emeritus Ronald L. Young (Reverend E. Sheila Young), Veronica (Young) Lewis, and Marguerite D. (Young) Henry (Maryland).

She graduated from Hudson High School in Macon, GA. She also received nursing training in Harrisburg, PA. Her working career included working for some years in the nursing field as an OB Technician at Polyclinic Hospital. Later, she worked as a Custodian and Field Agent (Truancy Officer) for the Harrisburg School District, retiring after 18 years of service. She later worked at Strawberry Garden Daycare.

Leona had a nurturing, kind, and caring spirit. At church, she was affectionately known as "Mom Jones." She greeted everyone with a smile. She exemplified the standards of a "Proverbs 31 woman." A devoted member of From the Heart Church Ministries of Harrisburg, she was full of vigor, grace, and wisdom—serving faithfully on the Altar Ministry, Choir, and Intercessory Prayer ministries of the church. Her motto was: "Love one another, be kind to those you meet, feed the hungry, and treat others the way you want to be treated."

She had several interests. She was very fashionable and honored the Lord by adorning her head with hats during church services. She enjoyed cooking, planting garden flowers, and singing spiritual songs around the house. She was always there for people in need. She always gave of her time and always willing to help anyone in need. During her lifetime, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother—leading a legacy spanning five generations.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Isaac Young; her second husband, Richard L. Jones; her sister, Rena May Hamilton; her brothers, George H. Davis Sr. and John Henry; and her daughter, Veronica Lewis.

Celebrating her Homegoing service are her children: Pastor Emeritus Ronald L. Young (Reverend E. Sheila Young), and Marguerite D. (Young) Henry (Maryland); grandchildren: Stewart J. D. Young Sr. (Harrisburg), Jamie Warren (Kevin) West Virginia, Margo Pamela Henry (Maryland), and Mark S. Henry (Maryland); 12 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family request monetary donations to be sent to Homeland Hospice.
