Lawrence H. Proctor

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and redeemer."

Psalm 19:14

Lawrence Henry Proctor was born the sixth child of nine siblings to Edward L. and Georgia Proctor on May 23, 1949, in Harrisburg PA. He attended Camp Curtin Middle School in Harrisburg where he met the love of his life, Fannie Mae Proctor. He later attended William Penn High School where he excelled and graduated with honors in 1967. He furthered his education and was the first in his family to attend and graduate from college. He earned his bachelors degree majoring in accounting from Franklin and Marshall College(F&M) in 1971. After graduating from college his work history included working at the Camp Curtin YMCA as one of the teachers and great youth organizers of The Marcus Garvey Program. The program emphasized African principals and self knowledge and used those to help mentor and guide hundreds of inner city youth. They combined education, black history, extra curricular activities and discipline to foster one of the best youth programs in the City. He later worked in his field of study as an Auditor for the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare during the 1970 and 1980's. Finally, he spent many years working from home during income tax season, as a tax preparer.

As a young adult, Lawrence was a member of the First Circle of The All African Peoples Revolutionary Party in Harrisburg. He loved black history. He was an avid reader and had hundreds of books. He also loved the game of chess. He used his witty skills to dominate family and friends whenever challenged. (Including his nephews Lover, Gary and Joe) Some of his other hobbies included track and basketball. He would brag that he had the best jump shot in the Proctor family. He loved music and had albums that were stacked from floor to ceiling. It was common to come into Lawrence's home and hear music from some of his favorite artist including Earth Wind and Fire, Newbirth and Marvin Gay. He, like all of his Proctor siblings, loved to dance. His two favorite dance moves were the "Daddy Grace and the Bunny Hop.” Lawrence was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church. As a younger man, he was a member of several churches including Wesley AME Zion and New Day International Kingdom Ministries in Harrisburg. He loved God and showed his love of God through his kindness and patience. That love from God showed in his commitment to his family. He was a loving husband who adored his wife Mae, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In his latter years he enjoyed being at home sitting in his favorite chair watching a variety of sports on TV. He usually spoke quietly unless he was cheering for his favorite teams the Kansas City Chiefs and the Golden State Warriors. Finally with a bit of persistent urging, he‘d leave his home and enjoy shooting pool with his sons.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward and Georgia, his brothers Bruce A. Anthony E., John K., Ronald L., and Jeffrey A. Proctor. He leaves to celebrate his life his devoted wife of 58 years Mae(Tulani) Proctor, his sons Lawrence Proctor II (Vicky), Hasani Proctor, and Osaze Proctor, daughters Nichole Johnson (Jonny), and Layla Proctor, grandchildren, India Proctor, Jade Onuekwsi (Gary), Lisimba Proctor, Sekou, Naasir, Salih and Niara Johnson, Nailah Gordon, Naeem and NajaaH Thomas, Tarajae Davis, A'keelah Proctor, Kanaze' and Keenz'Lee Macon and Aashir Proctor, siblings Edward L.
