Lavester "Lala" Mills

Lavester Mills, “Lala” to all that knew and loved him, was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, October 16, 1949, to the union of Roosevelt Mills and Bobbie Royster Mills, went to be with the Lord and Savior on Friday, June 2, 2023.

He received his early formal education at Northwest High School in North Carolina and shortly thereafter relocated to Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Lala accepted the Lord as his personal savior when baptized at Cedar Branch Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. He married the love of his life, Geneva Kelly, on October 16, 1995, during a romantic ceremony in Hawaii.

Lala began his working career at Mills Grocer, from there he worked at Black and Decker, and moved on to work at Mills Tavern. He finished his working career when retiring from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in March 2021. 

Lala was preceded in death by his father, Roosevelt Mills, his mother, Bobbie Royster Mills, 7 of his brothers, and 2 of his sisters. He leaves to cherish love and precious memories, his adoring wife, Geneva Mills, a daughter Tonya Williams, of North Carolina, a step-son, Larry Kelly (Leslie), a step-daughter, Vicki Kelly, sisters, Bernice Bruton, Lena Mills all of Harrisburg, Ernestine Devonshire, of North Carolina, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, a Godson, LaQuincey Watson, of Washington, DC and his special kinship with little brothers, Danny Holloway and Sam Price both of Harrisburg and a host of other family members

and friends.
