Kenneth Anthony Corker

Kenneth Anthony Corker transitioned into Eternal Life and INTO HIS PRESENCE Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Ken was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, May 13, 1941 to the late Velma and William Corker. He was the father of 3 children, Dedra Corker and Melissa Hutchinson of Philadelphia, PA and the late Robyn Corker. He is also survived by his wife of 21 years, Gwendolyn Poles-Corker and 5 grandchildren, Neshiya Harrell, Shakirah Haqq-Corker, Hafiz Haqq-Corker, Dominic and Mya Bright, all of Philadelphia. He was previously a member of New Testament Fellowship Church (now Zion Assembly) and most recently DaySpring Ministries. Ken was a graduate of Atlantic City High School and a member of the military, serving in the United States Navy from 1960 - 1965. He continuously worked in the field of printing after leaving the Navy where he obtained the trade he loved, lithography. Ken spent a good part of his adult life in Philadelphia but relocated to Harrisburg in 1990. He retired from the State Civil Service Commission in 2003 and later worked for the City of Harrisburg from which he retired in 2007. Ken most enjoyed watching action, drama, or mystery movies, reading newspapers such as the USA Today and the Washington Post and magazines such as Jet, Ebony, The Smithsonian, and The Wilson Quarterly, and working out at Central Penn Fitness Center. He also enjoyed travelling with Gwen to a variety of places ranging from Washington, DC to Hawaii to Aruba. Ken missed the enjoyment and peace found during their annual trip to Sandy Cove. Recent circumstances prevented them from making this treasured annual trek. During Ken's latter temporal days he was grateful for the abundant love showered on him and his wife by friends, family, neighbors and brothers and sisters in Christ. He found peace and comfort in God's unwavering Love and in knowing that he would be in the Presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and with his late daughter, Robyn. Services will be held at the Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 11AM with viewing at 10. Burial will be Tuesday at 10AM in Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, New Jersey. The family is appreciative of your love and support during their time of sorrow and bereavement. In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the South Central PA Sickle Cell Council, 2000 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA.
