Kathleen Quimby

Kathleen Quimby, 77, passed away on February 11, 2025, in Harrisburg, PA.

Kathleen Quimby was born as Darlene Angela Cox on May 13, 1947 in Lemoyne, PA, to Bruce Stoner and R. Lois Humphrey. She took her stepfather's last name of Laudenslager when she was 2 years old. She changed her first name to Kathleen (Kate) in 1998. Her last name changed with marriages: Fahnestock, Davis, and finally Quimby.

Kate graduated from Central Dauphin East in 1965 and went on, with a full scholarship, to earn a Bachelors in the Humanities from Mansfield University in the fall of 1967. She started her career as a teacher at Big Spring H.S. and went on to work as a college professor for HACC, Franklin & Marshall, Penn State, Dauphin Co. Prison, and Messiah College. Later, she put herself through graduate school as a single parent of three children and working multiple jobs. She received a Masters from Penn State University in 1986. She celebrated over 30 years of service upon retiring from Messiah College.

Kate was the proud mother to three children, Matthew Fahnestock of Marysville, Kendra Trufahnestock of Harrisburg, and Chad Fahnestock of Penbrook.

Kate was best known for her love of the finer things in life ~ the arts, reading, gourmet foods, travel, gardening and decorating her beloved Ivy Terrace home. She enjoyed hosting family and friends, aiming for "simple elegance." And she adored her grandchildren, sharing children's books and inspiring impromptu performances. As a young wife and mother, she joined the Ridgeway Church of the Brethren and then later spent several decades as an involved member of the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg.

Kate is survived by her sister Charlene Young and her brother Chuck Laudenslager as well as her son Matthew Fahnestock, daughter-in-law Joi Corrado and granddaughter Peyton Corrado of Marysville, daughter Kendra Trufahnestock, son-in-law Peter Trufahnestock, and grandchildren Owen and Nadia Trufahnestock of Harrisburg, and finally son Chad Fahnestock and granddaughter Montana Fahnestock of Penbrook.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her mother R. Lois Humphrey, her father Bruce Stoner, and sister Bonnie Kibe.
