She saw the road was getting tough, the hills were hard to climb
Josephine E. Hicks passed peacefully on Friday, June 19th in Harrisburg Hospital. She was employed at the Bayak Cigar Factory, Zommit Cleaners and the Harrisburg State Hospital for over 33 years in nursing. She was a life-time member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church; she served on the Choir, as a Sunday School Teacher, Culinary Leader and the Missionary Board. She spent many a day with the Visiting Angels, the Farm Show Cafeteria, Hershey Food's and volunteering at the Central PA Food Bank. She loved to sing, her grandchildren and friends, cooking, dancing and bingo. Josephine leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Johnnie Lee Hicks Sr., four daughters; Adrienne Tish Hicks-Warner (Linwood), Georganna "Goo" Hicks (Wandell), Tracey Hicks - Porter (Fred) all of Harrisburg and Janice Hicks of Bowie, MD, three sons; James Chatman (Sherri), Lorne Hicks (Sue) and Johnnie Lee Hicks, Jr. (Michelle), 3 sisters; Charlotte Joy, Della Murry of Harrisburg and Sharon Sales of Pittsburgh, PA, 4 brothers; Charles Johnson, Jeffery, Thomas and Michael Ford also of Harrisburg, 18 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several God Children and a host of other relatives and friends that she called family. Services will be held in her church, 2339 N. 6th Street, Harrisburg, on Friday, June 26th at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m. with interment at William Howard Day. Mrs. Hicks is being care for by Hooper Memorial Home, Inc.
