Mr. Joseph Benjamin Proctor, 96, of Harrisburg passed peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024. He was born in Doubs, MD, to the late Garfield and Harriet (Offutt) Proctor.

Mr. Proctor was employed by the City of Harrisburg, PA. He retired in 1992 after 32 years of service. Mr. Proctor was a member of the Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ in Harrisburg.

Joseph, who was a triplet, attended Frederick County Maryland Public Schools. Following high school, he worked for Frederick Memorial Hospital as an orderly. On October 4, 1950, he along with his brothers Jacob and John, enlisted in the United States Armed Services. Joseph served in the United States Army during The Korean War, with tours that included Germany, Belgium, and New Guinea. After reaching the rank of Staff Seargeant, he was honorably discharged on April 18, 1954 

Affectionately known as Joe or Uncle PeeWee by his family, he was an avid sports spectator of baseball and loved watching reruns of cowboy movies from the 50s and 60s.

As the youngest member of 12 siblings, he could always be counted on to rally everyone together.  Joe had a deep love for his family and was committed to attending every family outing.  He was big on being an integral part of every wedding and social event, he was the life of the party.  As a young adult, Joe, would join in singing Negro Spirituals with his sisters, Goldie, and Sadie, who also played the organ, and his brother John would play the guitar and they had beautiful harmony, Joe had a great baritone voice. 

Along with his parents he is preceded by his sons, Alfred and Leroy, sisters, Goldie Proctor Wilson, Sadie Proctor Green and nine brothers, Harry, Raymond, Claude, Charles, Augustus “Tommy”, William “Bill”, infant Snookie, John, Jacob.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 48 years Geneva, daughters Maryann Whiting Brady (Dorris), Patricia Smith, both of Harrisburg, PA, four grandchildren, Leasha, Margaret, Keith Brady and Jamil Carter; a special niece, Sadie “Libby” Rippeon, Adamstown, MD, cousins Lola Bowins Williams, Frederick, MD, Timmy Proctor Harrisburg, PA, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
