John H. Thornton, 88, passed Saturday May 21, 2016. He was born in Leesburg, VA and spent most of his adult years living in Harrisburg, PA. He was an Army WWII Veteran and retired from the former Navy Ships Part Control Center in Mechanicsburg, PA. Under the leadership of Pastor Franklin L. Henley, John served as an Usher, Sunday school teacher, Deacon, Cub Scout Leader of Pack 40 for 16 years and during his retirement he was the Coordinator for Meals on Wheels for 25 years. John was a faithful and dedicated servant and Deacon at Baptist Fellowship Church of Harrisburg, PA. John is survived by his wife, Eddie Bell Thornton of 58 years, 1 daughter Barbara Morton (Arthur) of Wyndmoor, PA, 3 sons Theodore Reed (Kathleen) of Woodbridge, VA, Kenneth Thornton (Helen) of Harrisburg, PA; Wayne Thornton (Debra) of Upper Marlboro, MD, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 brother Bernard Thornton (Diane) of Ft. Washington, MD; 4 sisters Sarah Ann Brooks of Landover, MD, Rosetta Bush and Betty Banks, of Leesburg, VA, Bernice Scott of Sterling, VA, sister-in-law Dorothy King of Harrisburg, PA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
