John N. Erwin Jr., 88, of Kelker Street passed peacefully on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Osteopathic Hospital. He was born on February 3, 1922 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late John and Martha Erwin. He was a member of Bethel Village A.M. E. Church; Life time member of the American Legion Post # 733, Veteran of World War II; recipient of the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and European-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. In 1962, he began working at Olmstead Air force Base and retired from the Defense Logistics Agency with over 20 years of federal service. John was affectionately known as "Apostle Paul" to his friends and colleagues. In his leisure time he enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Dodgers. He was preceded in death by 6 sisters and 2 brothers. He leaves behind to celebrate his life and memories, 1 son Harold R. Erwin (Carolyn) of Cedar Parks, Texas, 2 sisters, Otelia Erwin of Charlotte, North Carolina, Calethia Powell (Leonard) of Harrisburg; 3 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; a devoted niece, Betty J. Durham of Harrisburg, a special friend, Charlie Bass; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Services will be held at Hooper Memorial Home Inc. on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m. and burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. is caring for and handling Mr. Erwin's arrangements.
