Joe (Joseph) Walker was born on April 27, 1939, in Reidsville, North Carolina to the late George Early and Mamie Lee Alverson Walker. Joe departed this earth peacefully on Friday, March 24, 2023.
In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his siblings, Lottie Mae, Jannie Earlee, James Sr., Lenward and James.
Joe attended Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, NC. After becoming an adult, he moved to Steelton, Pennsylvania and then later to Harrisburg, PA Joe was married to Edith Rucker and through their union they had four sons, Yusef (Isa) Nascer Bey (Joe, Jr) of Arizona, James (Chrissy) Allen of NC, Jackie Lee, of NC, and John Avery, of PA.
Joe worked as a Harrisburg Auxiliary Policeman, Custodian, and Construction worker. He retired from the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company. After his retirement, Joe was employed by the Harrisburg School District as a rotating Custodian.
While in high school, Joe enjoyed playing baseball, horseshoes, checkers, dominoes and going to the flea markets. Joe loved purchasing vehicles, as well as cleaning, buffing, and polishing them until they looked brand new again. This was done for friends, family members and whoever would pay him a reasonable fee. His favorite meal was chicken, collard greens, macaroni and cheese and a big slice of pound cake.
Joe leaves to cherish her memories, his siblings, Richetta (Luther R.) Moyer, of NC and Lorine C. Walker of Harrisburg, his 4 children, 22 grandchildren, several great-grands, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
