Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Bradshaw George Pullen, daughter of the late Augustus W. Bradshaw and the late Virginia “Virgie” (Green) Bradshaw-Brown, was born on March 29, 1931, in Harrisburg, PA. Joan peacefully transitioned from this life on February 18, 2025, at the age of 93.
Joan was educated in the Harrisburg School District. She was a member of Turner Memorial Baptist Church in Steelton, PA, until her health prohibited her regular attendance. She devoted her time and skills to multiple workplaces, including the New Cumberland Army Depot and the Dauphin County Home, before ultimately retiring from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Joan embodied resilience and determination. She will be remembered for her unwavering strength and devotion to those she held dear. Joan was married twice in her lifetime. She was first married to Ralph W. George Sr. Later, she married Arthur L. Pullen Sr. and was widowed upon his passing.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Augustus W. Bradshaw and Virginia “Virgie” (Green) Bradshaw-Brown; her stepfather, Richard “Buck” Brown; her brothers, Patty, George, and Lee Preston Bradshaw; her sister, Helen Claggett; her sons, John Bradshaw, Garth George, Arthur L. Pullen Jr; her daughter, Patricia A. George-Nichols; and her grandsons, Mahni C. Nichols, Juan S. Bradshaw, and Christopher L. Brown.
Joan's legacy will be treasured by her surviving family members: her son, Ralph (Crystal) W. George Jr.; her daughter, Stephanie (Frank) R. Chambers; her beloved sister, Dana Shields; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor her memory.
In accordance with her final wishes, Joan will be cremated, and a private memorial and internment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The family deeply appreciates all expressions of love and support extended to them during this time.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Joan's niece, Juanita Shields, for her unwavering love and support. Her dedication and love were a source of comfort for Joan and her family.
