In Loving Memory of Jeffrey "JJ" Johnson
With heavy hearts, we come together to honor and celebrate the life of Jeffrey "JJ" Johnson, a man whose presence brought light, laughter, and love to all who knew him.
Jeffrey was born on January 26, 1956, in Harlem, NY, to his loving parents, Ferdinand Mayrant and Mable Johnson. He grew up surrounded by family, sharing an unbreakable bond with his siblings, Leroy Johnson, Geraldine Johnson, and Rosalie Johnson. Jeffrey was better known to his loved ones and in the community as JJ.
JJ attended Devry Vocational School, where he pursued his passion and became a licensed electrician-a trade that reflected his natural ability to bring light to any situation, both literally and figuratively. JJ's hard work and love for his trade resulted in him becoming a renowned electrician in the city of Harrisburg. As a result, he gained employment in the state of Pennsylvania as an electrician for over 20 years where he was blessed to be able to retire from in 2016.
JJ was energetic, competitive and inspiring. He loved to play many sports, but his all-time favorite sport was basketball. JJ competed in many basketball tournaments where he walked away with trophies as the victor. Though his all-time favorite sport was basketball, JJ's favorite gear and color to wear was that of the New York Yankees. JJ went on to become one of the best players in his pool league called the Outcasts. They competed in tournaments, where, again, he (they) walked away as the victor. Though he didn't compete in any tournaments, JJ also had a passion for chess. He was a well-known chess player to those who knew him, and he loved taking the time to teach anyone who wanted to learn how to play. If you wanted to brush up on your chess skills, JJ was the one to try and beat.
JJ was the life of every gathering, a man with a presence so strong that you felt it before he even entered the room. His thunderous laughter, booming voice, and boundless energy made him unforgettable. Whether playing basketball, chess, or shooting pool, he poured his heart into everything he did. His love for music was unmatched. He could take a song you disliked and make you fall in love with it simply because he did.
JJ's love was his greatest gift. His presence was warm, his hugs were intentional, and his words carried the weight of sincerity. He made everyone feel safe, valued, and deeply appreciated. JJ was popular wherever he went, and he was loved by many.
The Lord saw fit to call Jeffrey home on March 24, 2025. As we say our final farewell, let us not only grieve Jeffrey's passing but also celebrate the incredible life he lived. Preceded in Jeffrey's death are his father, Ferdinand Mayrant, his mother, Mable Johnson, his brother, Leroy Johnson, and his two sisters, Geraldine Johnson and Rosalie Johnson.
Jeffrey leaves behind to carry on his legacy his son Lashawn Johnson, 3 grandchildren, his nieces Lucinda Armwood and Desiree Patterson, his nephews Robert Johnson and Joe Harrell, as well as a host of great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering love, a legacy that will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Rest in peace, Jeffrey "JJ" Johnson aka Uncle J. Your light will never fade, and your love will never be forgotten.
