James L. Pitts, 82, passed peacefully on Thursday, January 1st in the Lebanon VA Hospital. Prior to Mr. Pitts' retirement, he was employed with the Harrisburg Police Dept., the Human Relations Commission and the Harrisburg School District. He was also an Army Veteran; a member of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon, his Masonic affiliation included Past Master of Chosen Friends Lodge #43, Himyar Temple #17, Grand Inspector General 33rd Degree Mason and Past Worthy Patron of O.E.S. #1. He leaves to celebrate his life and memory, a devoted wife Emily L. Pitts, two children; Gloria J. Scott and Larry Pitts, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two siblings, Fredrick Pitts and Helen Washington all of Harrisburg with a host of relatives and friends. A Masonic Service will be held, Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc., 3532 Walnut Street, 6-7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 9 2009, at 11:00 a.m., Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 212 N. Progress Ave., with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The family is appreciative for your many acts of kindness and love during their time of bereavement.
