Jackie Bailey

With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Jackie "Jack" Bailey, beloved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who passed away on April 6, 2025, at 89 years old.

Jack Bailey was born on October 7, 1935, in Chester, SC, to Israel and Lucreatia Bailey. He spent his early years between Chester, SC, and Baltimore, MD.

He dedicated his career to being a master crane operator at the Bethlehem Steel Mill for 42 years and retired in 1997. Jack proudly spent over 60 years behind the barber's chair - a true master of his craft. He owned and operated his barbershop, which became more than just a place for haircuts. It was a cornerstone of the community, a gathering place where stories were shared, laughs were had, and friendships were formed. Generations of families came through his doors, and many stayed not just for the haircut but for the conversation and the sense of belonging he created. He had a gift for making people feel at home - whether you were a regular or walking in for the first time, you left feeling like an old friend. His steady hands, listening ear, and kind spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who sat in his chair. His shop wasn't just where he worked - it was where he built a legacy of trust, service, and connection that will be remembered for years.

Jack was the definition of strength and stability. A proud, wise "cowboy" at heart, he carried himself with quiet confidence and unshakeable determination. Jack was solid and strong-willed - a protector by nature and a provider by choice. Family always came first, and he worked hard every day to ensure they were cared for and supported. He led with love but also with grit and old-fashioned wisdom that earned the respect of everyone who knew him. He gave freely - of his time, knowledge, and heart - and those around him were better for it. He was a family man through and through; his legacy is one of love, hard work, and unwavering devotion.

Jack was a true outdoorsman at heart. He found joy and peace in nature, whether he was out fishing at dawn, hunting in the woods, or simply enjoying the fresh air. He shared his passion for fishing with his children, grandchildren, and the kids growing up in the neighborhood. Known for his uncanny ability to fix just about anything, he was the go-to handyman for family, friends, and neighbors - always ready with a tool in hand and a solution in mind. If something was broken, Jack could make it right.

He loved football, especially cheering on his favorite teams - the Steelers, Eagles, and Penn State. He was also passionate about boxing and golf, never missing a big fight or Tiger Woods. And if a scratch-off ticket were nearby, he'd happily take his chances - sometimes joking that he was just "one ticket away" from hitting it big. Trips to the casino were always a thrill, and he enjoyed them with a twinkle in his eye.

He kept his cars spotless, always polished and running smooth, reflecting the pride he took in everything he did. Jack never met a stranger - his warm spirit and easy conversation made everyone feel like family. He loved road trips and vacations, especially those spontaneous drives with no set destination, just good company and the open road ahead.

But above all, the greatest joy in Jack's life came from his grandchildren. His eyes would light up every time they entered the room, and nothing made him prouder than watching them grow. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether teaching them something new, sneaking them treats, or just listening to their stories. His love for them was boundless, and they were the light of his life.

Jack peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home, where he was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Pauline Bailey, son Michael Bailey, parents Israel and Lucreatia Bailey, brother Joseph Bailey, and sister Sarah Bailey. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving daughter Jacqueline (Rodney) and their children Jakar, Jairus, and Raven Mills. Michael's daughter, Danielle Bailey. Son Kelvin (Robyn); children Siddell and Jaren (Amanda) daughters Laine and Lana Bailey. Son Steve (Sherron); children Trystin (Madoc); Their son Arnez Bailey; Evan and Brooke Bailey. Son Stanley Bailey. Son Duane McGinnis. Brothers James "Jim" Bailey, Major Bailey, and sister Lucreatia Perry. And a special cousin, Wendell Taylor. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
