George Abraham Franklin, Jr. was born on July 8, 1951 in Cope, South Carolina to George Abraham Franklin, Sr. and Bessie J. Franklin. In 1955, the family migrated to Harrisburg, PA where George spent his childhood. George graduated from John Harris High School in 1969. George graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1977 and received his Masters of Business Administration from Amberton University in 2008. George was also a Certified Public Accountant.
In 2012, George retired from Harrisburg Area Community College where he served as Vice President of Finance and College Resources for 15 years. Prior to this role, George was Controller where he was responsible for college wide administration of all accounting policies and some business services. Twelve years of his career was spent as an auditor for various divisions of Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was a subject matter expert for the National Association of College and University Business Officersâ and Eastern Association of College and University Business Officersâ.
If thereâs anything you could say about George, he had a big heart. George was known for being a loving husband and father, dedicated friend and mentor. George was a friend to all and always willing to help wherever and whenever he could. He was down-to-earth and accepted people for whom they are.
George enjoyed spending time at home watching sports, westerns, cooking and furthering his education. He recently enrolled in a Home Building and Remodeling program at HACC. He loved to laugh and gather family for get-togethers with cold beer and fried fish. George and his wife traveled frequently and he enjoyed reading books on the beach.
George was a member of Camp Curtin Memorial Mitchell United Methodist Church, Leadership Harrisburg, and the Sons of the American Legion.
George is survived by his wife of Caroline Franklin; mother, Bessie J. Franklin of Harrisburg, PA; two sons, Keenan Roberts (and his wife, Pamelita)and Kelley Franklin, both of Harrisburg, PA, daughter Karlee Franklin of Jersey City, NJ; siblings Alice McArthur of Harrisburg, PA, Anthony Franklin (and his wife, Victoria) of Houston, TX, and Timothy Franklin of Harrisburg, PA; grandchildren Kylah, Keenan Jr. and Khalil Roberts. He is also survived also by several aunts and uncles Shellie and Ada Evans, Evelyn Harvey, Doreatha Johnson, all of Harrisburg, PA, and Queen Esther Franklin of Orangeburg, SC and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, George A Franklin, Sr.
