Garland H. Lipscomb, 70, of Lower Paxton Township, passed peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Osteopathic Community General Hospital. Garland retired as a Soil Scientist from the US Department of Agriculture with over 30 years of dedicated service. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Steelton and a life member of Sharon Baptist Church of Farmville, Virginia. Garland served in various organization, board affiliations and had numerous membership including; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., past Basileus of Kappa Omega Chapter, Camp Curtain YMCA , The Harrisburg Boy's and Girl's Club, PA Association of Professional Soil Scientist and American Society of Agronomy to name a few. He enjoyed golfing, with several memberships in several golf leagues and was a member of the Central Virginia Negro Baseball League. He leaves to celebrate his life and memory his devoted wife Lorraine Lipscomb, two daughters Shelly Echeverria and Sharon McCauslin all of Harrisburg, siblings Mary Tuell, Ruth Colbert, Hilda Dean, William Lipscomb and Doris Phillips all of Virginia, 3 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A viewing will be held at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 248 Seneca Street in Harrisburg on Monday, June 28, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with services for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity starting at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will then be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at The First Baptist Church, 1850 S. 19th Street, Steelton, PA at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 and burial in the Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Cumberland County, Farmville, Virginia.
