Floyd Gerrell Majette was born to the late Arthur and Virginia Majette on January 12, 1931 in Rich Square, North Carolina and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Floyd was preceded in death by 10 of his siblings, Arthur Armstrong Majette, Claude Lee Majette, Jessie Mae Strawter, Sidney Corine Majette, Audrey Mae Majette, Bernice Reed, Nathaniel Majette, Ethel Hayes, Cleo Majette, and Laxie Pernell Majette and his son-in-law Robert Louis Johnson Jr.
Floyd received his formal education and graduated in the public schools in Rich Square, North Carolina. He graduated from Saint Augustine College in Raleigh North Carolina with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry.
Prior to attending college, Floyd joined the United States Army and fought courageously in the Korean War. He was discharged with a Purple Heart.
He worked over 38 years as a chemist at the US Army Petroleum Center in New Cumberland, PA.
He married Willie Mae Floyd on December 21, 1961. During this union five children were born, Yvette, Audrey, Floyd (II), Mario, and Gwendolyn.
Floyd Majette loved to read, dance, and listen to jazz. Some of his favorite musicians include Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Charlie Parker.
His loving memories will be cherished by his children, Charles Gladney of Raleigh, NC; Yvette Johnson of Silver Spring, MD; Audrey Majette of Baltimore, MD; Floyd G. Majette II (Janelle L.) of Fort Washington, MD; Mario L. Majette (Gwendolyn R.) of Silver Spring MD; and Gwendolyn N. Majette of Bronx, NY; his grandchildren, Ebony Monet Majette, Destinee Janai Majette, Brittany Jontae Majette, Aaron Anthony Jameson, Jalynne Amari Majette, Robert Louis Johnson III, and Ryheir Leone Johnson; his sister Canary Frazier Spruill, and a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
