Essie M. Prentice

Essie Mae (Cole) Prentice, 89 of Edgemont, passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 surrounded by her daughters. Essie was the daughter of the late Willie Cole and Estella Jackson Saunders, predeceased by her husband William L. Prentice Sr. and a graduate of Susquehanna Twp. High School in 1944.  She retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Office of Administration as a Computer Programmer with more than 10 years and prior Mechanicsburg Navy Depot with 20 years of service. Essie was a member of Locust Lane Mennonite Chapel, past Sunday School Teacher and served on the Sharing Fund Committee. A former member of First Zion Baptist Church of Edgemont also serving on the Trustee Board, Chair of the Building Fund, Ladies Auxiliary, Treasurer and President of the Usher Board. Essie also served on the Edgemont Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary, as well as an avid activist for the Edgemont community. She leaves to celebrate her life and memory her children; Leonard Prentice of New Jersey, William L. Prentice, Jr. of Nebraska, Arlene L. and Karen A. Prentice both of Harrisburg, 3 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Legacy Hospice, 4813 Jonestown Road, Suite 201, Harrisburg, Pa 17109, enclose in memory of Essie Prentice.
