Douglas (“Doug”) E. Winston was born in Harrisburg, PA, to the late Dorothy Winston-Hicks and the late George E. Johnson, Sr. On June 26, 2024, God called Doug home to reunite with his mother, whom he greatly cherished, along with other loved ones.
Doug completed his education in the Harrisburg School District and was a proud alumnus of the Harrisburg High School class of 1985. He loved those Harrisburg Cougars. Doug was employed for the last 25 years at Securitas Security Services, until his health began to decline.
In 2002, Doug met his best friend and beloved "partner in crime," Andrea, after they both started working for Penn National Insurance Company. They married in 2010 and have continued to cherish each other ever since.
In his spare time, Doug enjoyed drawing, listening to all genres of music, collecting Marvel comic books and action figures (especially the Incredible Hulk), and collecting model cars (especially Chevy Impalas and Lamborghinis). Whether they were winning or losing, he loved his UNC Tar Heels as well as his Chicago Bears. Doug loved to laugh and loved making those around him laugh. He was a big kid at heart. He always encouraged his loved ones to "stay hungry" and strive for better things in life.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his step-father, Joseph Hicks, and his sisters Sophronia Gaines, Veronica Daniels, and Marianne Winston.
Along with his wife Andrea, Doug leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Kianna Henry (Tim Fasick) of Mechanicsburg, PA; four grandchildren; godson, Rayshawn Carroll (Ashley Carroll) of Harrisburg, PA; four sisters, Beverly Singleton (Roger Singleton), Lori Bratcher, and Sharita White-Johnson of Harrisburg, PA, and Pamela Brown of Victorville, CA; four brothers, Samuel Johnson, Ronald Johnson, and Cortney Johnson of Harrisburg, PA, and Kurt Johnson of Los Angeles, CA; special niece, Zainab Joanne Handy (Lamont Handy) of Edmond, OK; uncles Benjamin “Stumpy” Stubbs, Jr., William “Billy” Smith, and Robert “Bobby” Smith; aunt, Crystal Smith; mother-in-law, W. Jean Dones; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to ALS United Mid-Atlantic (alsmidatlantic.org), in hopes that someday soon, more treatments and/or a cure will be discovered for those diagnosed with this disease.
