Doris Elizabeth Stockton, age 70, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at home. She was born on January 27, 1948 in Farmington West Virginia to the late Ruth E. McDale Mitchell and George F. Mitchell
Doris spent most of her child hood in Farmington, Chatham Hill, West Virginia until she moved to Harrisburg Pennsylvania with her mother as a teenager. There she attended and graduated from John Harris High School in 1966. After graduation, Doris found employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where she ended up retiring from the Liquor Control Board with over 25 years of service. She was a devoted mother and grandmothe
In her leisure, when Doris was younger she enjoyed traveling to the islands and playing cards, music, knitting, crocheting; then more recently puzzle books, painting and going to the Rutherford House Club. One of her favorite things was going shopping to the outlets, QVC, HSN, and online. She loved to be color-coordinated from her purse to her shoes. Doris would shop all the time and for everyone in the family. It was nothing for her daughter, one of her sisters, nieces, nephews or grandsons to get a package in the mail from her just because she was thinking of them. Most of all Doris loved spending time with her daughter and grandsons.
Doris was a kind hearted and giving person to all who knew her. She loved her sisters. She had a special bond with all of her sisters, they looked out for each other and all of their children.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and George Mitchell, Sister, De Lois Mitchell-Hamilton and granddaughter, Taylor V. Johnson. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, her daughter Angelique Johnson (fiancé Stephen Rice); grandsons, Paris Preston and Vaurice Johnson; God Son and Nephew, Christopher Mitchell; her siblings; Eveline Cooksey, George F. Mitchell Jr., Rose Anna Cooksey, Reginald (Lilly) Mitchell and Gloria Chase, and a host of very special nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
