Doris Jeanne Woodruff Neighbors was born Jeanne Evelyn Geraldine Woodruff in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 5, 1920, to Minus Elijah Woodruff and Amy Christine (Owen) Woodruff. Jeanne, as she was known to her family and close friends, was an outstanding student at the historic Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, Indiana where she graduated in 1937. Jeanne followed her two older sisters to the Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) to obtain her Bachelor of Arts in 1941. In 1966 she began teaching 8th grade Algebra in the Susquehanna School District where she retired in 1983. She embarked immediately on an active career of volunteer service that included teaching at the White Hill Industrial School for Young Offenders and maintaining the financial records for Capital Presbyterian Church. Jeanne liked watching the cable news so that she could keep up with politics and absolutely loved "March Madness." Jeanne Neighbors was very achievement oriented and hard-working in a quiet, determined way. She is survived by son Harold Woodruff Neighbors, daughter-in-law Bonita Davis Neighbors, Mrs. Bonnie Briley Davis (Woody's Mother-in-law), Grandchildren Rashid Neighbors, Karimah Dillard, and Steven Davenport; and many close family members and friends.
