Doris E. Lester

Doris E. (Wilkerson) Lester, 96, of Harrisburg passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday evening, August 15th, 2024. She was born on February 6, 1928 in Harrisburg PA, to the late Herbert Wilkerson and Susan (Gardner) Wilkerson.

 After graduating from William Penn High School in 1946, Doris worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation of the Commonwealth of PA. In 1953, Doris married the late Harold W. Lester Sr. with whom she shared 60 years of loving marriage. After being a homemaker for 25 years, Doris worked in the customer service department of the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency from which she retired.

 She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Doris’ hobbies included gardening, reading, word search puzzles, shopping, and cooking. Most of all, she was a caring, loving, and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all.

 In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her brothers: Herbert, Thomas, and Melvin Wilkerson. She leaves to celebrate her life, her sons Harold Lester, Jr. and Thomas Lester and her daughter Jewell Lester; her grandchildren Howard Eady, Dominique (Danielle) Lester, Jamar (Deborah) Lester, and Jennifer (Joseph) Edinger; her great granddaughters Asia Eaddy, Lily Engstrom, Allison Lester, and Maya Lester; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

 A Celebration of Life Service be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM at DaySpring Ministries, 1600 Spring Garden Drive, Middletown, PA. A viewing will be held at the church on Thursday starting at 10:00 AM. Internment will immediately follow services at William Howard Day Cemetery.
