Donald R. Evens, Sr. was born on December 6th, 1952, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania to the late Robert S. Evens, Sr. and the late Rosalee M. Reid Evens. He passed from earthly life to eternal life on Monday, July 4, 2005 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He received his education from Harrisburg High School. Friends and family affectionately knew him as Butch, Tattoo and Sweets. He entered the Marine Corps and served two years of duty.
Dauphin Manor employed him until his illness. Butch's worship experience began at St. Paul AME Church where served for numerous years as trustee and also director of the choir until his illness. He continued to be a faithful member until his passing.
He was also the Vice-President and Co-founder of Stop The Violence Ministries until 1995. Some of the gifts Butch left to his family included his giving heart, love, respect, kindness, peacefulness, encouragement and his beautiful voice singing praises to the Lord. Butch's life will be remembered and celebrated by his wife Melanie Turner. Eight sons, Donald R. Hill, Donald R. Evans, Jr. Michael Evans-Turner, Darien Evans-Turner, Harrison Evans-Turner, Keenan Evans-Turner, Myles Evans-Turner, and Chance Evans-Turner all of Harrisburg. Two daughters, Turesa L. Dennis and Shakenya Hill, also of Harrisburg. Five brothers, Robert S. Evans, Jr. Joel N. Evans, Christopher S. Evans, Robert D. Evans, and Diaunta S. Evans. Three sisters, Shuvona Evans, Donna Betts and Joannie Cooksie. Butch was brother to the late Gilberta Evans of Carlisle. He also leaves numerous grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Thank you to everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers.
