"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith... " Deacon Oswald C. Jackson, 82, of Harrisburg transitioned into eternal life on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. He was born in White Post, VA on April 20, 1930, to the late Rev. Thomas and Josephine Pickett Jackson. He attended Clark County High School in Berryville, VA. He is a veteran of the Korean War, having being honorably discharged in 1953. He also served in the Army Reserves here in Harrisburg. He was a member and Deacon of St Paul Baptist Church in Harrisburg. His community service work over the years included coaching baseball teams for fifteen years at the Midget and Legion League level, working with the Boys Scouts, serving and working with the Optimist Club and other civic organizations. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing and coaching baseball, bowling, golfing, building and remodeling, and auto mechanics. Deacon Jackson was a retiree (1992) of the New Cumberland Army Depot and also had his own lawn care service for three years. Deacon Jackson was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Alicia Monet Jackson, one brother Elwood Carter Jackson, and two sisters, Marie Jackson and Tacoma Payne. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Curry Jackson, three sons, Elder Kevin Darnell Jackson (Neena), Kyle Dupree Jackson (Toni), Elder Kaylor Wayne Jackson (Jennifer), and a daughter, Anna Marie Shannon (Lumont Sr), twelve grandchildren, Nicole, Shauntay, Trevin, Emmanuel, Shaniece, Kyla, Lumont Jr., Jenaia, Allen, Taylor, Andre, Armani, twenty great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two brothers, Thomas Jackson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Lloyd Jackson of Washington, DC, five sisters, Lucille Johnson of Wenonah, NJ, Susie Day of White Post VA, Otas Hubbard of Winchester VA, Irma Carey of Berryville VA, and Barbara Henderson of Sacramento CA. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Oswald to his church, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1201 N. 17th St, Harrisburg PA 17103.
