David Walker peacefully transitioned to a more peaceful place on Monday, July 6, 2020. David was born September 18, 1943 at JC Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, PA to Maude and Louie Walker. Both parents preceded him in death.
As David blossomed and grew in the Mount Union community, he saw to it that he pulled others along and other followed him. He was very active in the Bethel AME community, participating in church activities, i.e., Glee Club, church basketball and any other activities Reverend Williams thought that young people should be involved in. He and his cousin Bill were the activities coordinators, especially for basketball.
David attended and graduated from Captain Jack High School in Mount Union. He was an honor student throughout his academic years. He was the Vice President of his Senior Class of 1962. Continuing with his love for sports, he was the Most Valuable Player in both basketball and football and at various times during his years in sports.
Dave was about 12 years old when he decided to become an entrepreneur under the tutelage of Mr. Taylor Gibson. He taught him to cut grass, a job that Dave took very seriously and he worked at it diligently. As he progressed through the stages of life, he worked at various position and places throughout his years of employment.
He enjoyed 40 years as a fiscal accountant for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Working both at the Liquor Control Board and for the Department of Health and Welfare. He was very active in “Blacks for Government.” As seriously as he was about every endeavor, he married the “Love of his Life,” Geraldine Caldwell Walker and enjoyed 54 years of marriage.
David always gave his all as he did when he joined the Masonic Order. He was ambitious. As a Mason, he belonged to Chosen Friends Lodge # 43 F&AM; and was a Grand Inspector General, a 33rd Degree Mason, and a member of Nymrod Consistory # 9. He was also a Past Potentate of Himyar Temple # 17 A.E.A.O.N.M.S. and Past Deputy of the Oasis of Harrisburg A.E.A.O.N.M.S. David always enjoyed discussing the Masonic business with his late step-father, Henry Marshall.
David loved his family and his friends. He also leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Geraldine, siblings; Jacqueline Darrington, Joseph Lamb, Jennie (Dennis) Miller and Steven (Hazel) Lamb, God daughter Danielle Williams; sister-in-law, Hattie Smith, brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Tanya Tyson, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
