Darryl Denson

Darryl Alfred Denson was born in Harlem, New York, on December 27, 1959. He was one of three siblings, including the late Barry Denson and Cornell Jones. He was the son of the late Barbara Delores Denson and the late Alonzo Worth Denson.

Darryl grew up in New York City and graduated from Flushing High School in 1978. He frequently traveled to New Jersey to visit his mother during her battle with MS. It was in New Jersey where he met the love of his life, Robin (Gatling) Denson. Darryl and Robin met in Trenton, NJ, on Memorial Day in 1985 and dated for two years before marrying in Elkton, MD, on April 29, 1988. Together, they had three children: Shamira, Desiree, and Marcus.

Darryl worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Department of Transportation for over a decade before retiring in 2007. Never one to sit still for long, he explored various part-time jobs before his final role at Dolly's Uptown Laundry, where he did maintenance work. He loved helping others and never stopped working. Darryl didn’t allow his diagnosis to keep him from enjoying life. In recent years, he found joy in riding his bike along the river, attending local events, socializing, and spending time with his family. He especially loved having his grandchildren stay over.

After his diagnosis, Darryl focused on turning his life around, spending his final days growing closer to God and his loved ones.

On February 27, 2025, in the early morning hours, Darryl was called home to the Lord with his loving wife by his side.

Predeceased by his parents, his brother Barry, and his special uncle Leonard, Darryl leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 36 years, Robin; his brother Cornell "Lucky"; his four children: Shamira, Desiree, Marcus, and Blayne; his son-in-law James (Shamira) and daughter-in-law Destenie (Marcus); and his three grandchildren: Darien, Solana, and Journi. He is also survived by special friends Bernard, Mike, and Kippy, along with a host of cousins, friends, and colleagues.
