Today, we gather to celebrate the life of Constance Marie Jackson. She was born on March 27, 1938, and lived an eventful life until she went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2025, at the age of 86.
“Heedy,” as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was born in Harrisburg, PA, where she received her formal education and graduated from William Penn High School in 1956. She majored in Business Administration while lettering in five sports—field hockey, tennis, track, softball, and her favorite, basketball—earning her All-American status. After graduation, she continued her love for athletics by participating in local YMCA basketball leagues. You could also find her on a community tennis court or in a local bowling league.
As an adult, Heedy worked for the State of Pennsylvania's Revenue Department. In 1970, she married Wardell W. Jackson and relocated to Detroit, Michigan. There, she raised her three sons: Barry, Anton, and Tim.
After arriving in “Motown,” she began working at Wayne State University (Downtown Campus) as a Computer Key-Punch Operator on IBM computers, entering data cards into computer systems and training new operators. During the mid-eighties and nineties, Heedy took a break from the workforce to focus more on her family as a homemaker. She eventually re-entered the workforce as an administrative clerk for the Detroit Police Department’s Homicide Division in 1996 and retired in 2006.
In retirement, Heedy enjoyed a simple life. She was content with tuning in to her favorite shows and sports on TV. She cherished conversations with family and friends, always willing to lend an ear and comfort others in times of need, even from hundreds of miles away. We will miss her love, kindness, and relentless passion.
In 2013, Heedy returned to Harrisburg to be closer to her family as she bravely battled her illnesses.
Constance was born to the late Charles Johnson and Lillian B. House. She is survived by her sons, Lovett Anton (and wife Annette) Daniels and Timothy (and wife Cynthia) Daniels Sr.; nine grandchildren; great-grandchildren; extended family; and dear friends.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
