Beverly Ann (Delworth) Walker, 74, of Hershey, Pennsylvania and formerly
of Springfield, Massachusetts passed peacefully, November 15, 2010.
Bev, as she was affectionately known, was born on June 8, 1936 in Springfield,
Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Susan
Delworth. She and her husband, Ira D. (Bud) Walker, Jr. were married for
fifty-four years. Bev attended and graduated from Classical High School in
Springfield, Mass. In 1956, she married Bud which was the start of their
54 year marriage and their travels to places like Germany and Japan. In
February of 1973, they moved to Hershey to become the first African-
American houseparents at the prestigious Milton Hershey School for 14
years. During this time, Bev earned her Associates Degrees in Human
Services and Child Care at Harrisburg Area Community College. After
leaving the Milton Hershey School, she worked at Strawberry Gardens and
South Central Employment Corporation (SCEC). Bev was a member of
Capital Presbyterian Church, Capital Presbyterian Women's Association,
Capital Presbyterian Deacon Board in Harrisburg, Advisory Board Committee
(YWCA) on Violence Intervention and Prevention, Girl Scouts of
America (Hemlock Council), Numian Ladies Investment Club and Just
Us Ladies Social Club.
She leaves to mourn her passing her beloved husband, Ira D. Walker,
Jr., her son, Ira D. Walker III, her daughter, M. Renee Papapietro and her
grandchildren: Lena Malcolm, David Malcolm, Amber Walker, Rebecca
Walker, Garreth Papapietro, Kaela (Papapietro) Marsh and grandson-in-law
Brandon Marsh,; great-grandchildren Shardae Papapietro and Jeremiah
D. Marsh.
Services will be in her Church, 1401 Cumberland Street Monday November 22, 2010 at 12 noon with viewing at 10:30AM.
Her final resting place will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
