Bessie L. Spurlock

Bessie Spurlock, 91 of Harrisburg, was born in Fairbanks, Pennsylvania on September 13, 1921 the second oldest child of nine children by the late William and Cora Lee Lawton. Her siblings were Eugene, Frank, Jimmy, Annie, Erma, Mildred, Mammie, and William Lawton. Of the nine children Wily Jr. is the half brother. Bessie Spurlock attended Red Stone High Township High School. She later married Arthur Spurlock and they were married in Dayton, Ohio for 2-3 years before moving back to Philadelphia. She went to cosmetology beauty school to get licensed to do hair. Bessie joined the Church of God In Christ as a young adult and instilled God in our lives. Bessie was like a mother to her grandchildren, raising them from an early age to adulthood. She went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2012. She is survived by her son Robert Spurlock Sr., two sisters, Mildred and Willa May Lawton, nieces Diane and Pam, grandchildren; Corine Wills, William Tyrone Spurlock, Donneil Spurlock, Rose Spurlock and deceased, Robert Spurlock Jr. She also had 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Friday October 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m. with burial in Paxtang Cemetery.
