Bertha King was born on April 13, 1940 in Charlotte N.C. to the late Jessie and Mary Beasley. Bertha entered into eternal rest at the age of 71 on April 20, 2011 at Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg. Bertha relocated to Harrisburg with her husband in the early 60's. She was an active member of the local chapter of the Eastern Star. Bertha was a mother to the entire community, a true servant, devoted to helping others. She founded the Hall Manor Tenants Organization, ran youth summer school programs and organized activities for the children. She often cooked for the underprivileged, held toy drives, and organized food banks to help others during the holidays. Bertha would often advocate for and assist people who were dealing with crisis. Mrs. King was awarded the Jefferson award in 1979 for her outstanding community service, was later honored with a key to the City, and received numerous other awards. She attended church as a member of True Worshippers Ministries. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband Samuel King, her sisters Mary McDowell, Henrietta Darby, and Margret Easton. She is survived by her sister Nanny Lee Johnson, her Children Andrice Bartow (Melvin), Samuel Beasley, Weldon King (Vita), Gloria Thompson (Melvin), Samantha Johnson (Wesley) Her step children, Bradley Boswell, Sherry Boswell (Paul), Tylexus Jackson, Derby Macon, Anita Taylor, Kimberly Price, 21 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren. Bertha was also truly valued as a mother, sister and a friend to so many others, too numerous to mention.
