Mother Beressa (Brooks) Mayo, 85 was born on May 21, 1937, in Lumberton, Florida. She was the daughter of the Late James and Mary Lee (Burns) Brooks and predeceased by her husband James Mayo, Sr., three children; Joann Mayo, James Mayo, Jr., and Douglas Wilcox, five siblings; Alex Brooks, Alzrio Brooks-McDonald, Lizzie Brooks-Ross, Jacob Brooks, and Daskie Brooks-Williams.
Mother Mayo passed away peacefully to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Gardens of West Shore.
Mother Mayo met and married Jimmie Mayo. She had four children (one daughter and three sons). She received her formal education in the Carlisle Area School District. She devoted years to raising her children and was briefly employed with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of General Services in which she retired. She was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ until her illness. She enjoyed singing and coloring.
Mother Mayo leaves to cherish her memories her son Michael Mayo, siblings, Alvana Brooks-Brown and Anderson Brooks (Josephine), three grandchildren; Stephon Wilkerson, Kadeja and Kadeem Jackson, eight great-grandchildren; Laphonye, Oreanna, Juwaan, Jaleel and Jacion Wilkerson, Malaysia Jackson, Kassus Clay and Malachi Jackson; one great-great-Granddaughter, Alena Bethea and a host of relatives, church family and friends.
