Barry Lee Brown, Sr. was born on September 20, 1956 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Nannie Summers Brown and the late Lewis Brown, Sr. and predeceased by his brother Lewis Brown, Jr. Barry received his formal education from the Harrisburg School District and graduated in 1975 from John Harris High School.
Barry served four years in the United States Navy. He was employed by Pinnacle Health and Dauphin County Meals on Wheels; he was also a member of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church and had served as a member of the Male Usher Board. Barry was an avid sports fan, his favorite team was the Pittsburgh Steelers; he was known as the âGrill Masterâ at cookouts and often entertained us by being the comedian and cracking jokes. He also enjoyed watching movies.
Barry displayed a tremendous amount of strength and courage, always meeting the challenges that lied ahead of him. He came to know the love of God in a greater capacity, for each day that was given to him by God, became a daily miracle. He always kept hope alive and challenged other to do the same. After a courageous battle with cancer Barry was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Lebanon VA Hospital in Lebanon, PA.
Barry leaves to celebrate his life and memory his loving mother, Nannie Brown; his son Barry Brown, Jr. (Anni) of Alabama and daughter Shardi Brown of Harrisburg, 2 grandchildren; Diamond Brown and Barry Brown III, 3 sisters; Carolyn Hickerson, Sandra Sawyers (Willie), and Debra Brown of Harrisburg, 1 sister-in-law Yolanda Brown of Front Royal, Virginia, 3 Aunts; Elaine Metz of Harrisburg, Amanda Pheasant of Ohio, Margaret Summers of Front Royal, Virginia, 4 uncles; Toussaint Summers of Hume, Virginia, Charles Croft of Harrisburg, Goldie and Allen Baltimore of Front Royal, Virginia, and his companion Lynn Hollingsworth, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
