Barbara Louise Jackson

Barbara Louise Jackson of Harrisburg, PA transitioned peacefully to her final resting place with our Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning, October 22, 2024 at 92 years young. Barbara was born on January 8, 1932 in Washington D.C. to the late Samuel L. Kemper and the late Ella L. Kemper. She was affectionately known by many as Aunt Barb, Mom Barb, Barbie, Ms. Jackson, Granny and let us not forget, "Granny Barbara Jackson". She was preceded in death her husband of 11 years, Theodore W. Jackson; daughters, Charlene Kemper, Waverly Chadwick; sisters, Dorothy Sims, Mary Lewis, Deloris Young; brothers, Charles and William Kemper; granddaughters, Michelle Kemper, Shelby Williams; grandson, Derrick Kemper and great grandson, A-Quan Kemper.

Barbara was raised in Harrisburg, PA by her great uncle, George Kemper, and his caring wife from the age of two and a half. She frequently visited her parents and siblings in D.C. and Front Royal, Virginia. She attended schools in the Harrisburg School District. At the age of 5, she taught herself how to sew and began making clothes for her dolls. Throughout her subsequent years, she developed her talent and skills to the level of master seamstress, creating everything from including clothing for her children, grandchildren, herself, other relatives, neighbors, and even church goers. She made prom dresses and did alterations for several local police to make sure their uniforms were just right. Barbara did extensive alterations when she was employed at several local dry cleaners. Her special tagline was "Made with Love" etched into her work and featured all throughout the city. But most importantly, it was etched in her heart to know such care went into every item she touched. In addition, she had been a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, however, she would often visit local churches throughout the area.

Barbara enjoyed traveling, sewing, coloring, crossword puzzles, reading, watching television, and shopping at Boscov's. She also spent time at Hobby Lobby, Home Goods and other craft stores. She enjoyed taking care of her plants, talking about her family history and black history. She loved to learn and share what she learned. Holidays were most important spending time with her family, and supporting those she loved with a fullness of pride during their achievements and special events. Beneath her long hair and beautiful smile laid "Granny's" kindness, warmth, wit, quiet strength & resiliency. If you needed a hug, a shoulder to cry on, or just a few words of positivity; go see Granny.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her sister Norma Brown; her daughters Vernel Allyene (Rick) and Norma Wiliams Jackson; her sons, Kevin and Dwayne Jackson; Grandchildren, Terrill, Eric, and Shamika Bethea, Kevin T. and Amber Jackson, Brianna Bass-Rivers(Alonzo), Dawanna Anderson, Psalms Chipps, Rachael White(Jordan), Ashley Williams, Angel Davis(Quinton), Maliyah, Taliyah, and Aaliyah Warden, 25 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews and a host of other relatives & friends.
