Avis Marie Chapman, 82, of Harrisburg, PA, peacefully transitioned into eternal life on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at UPMC Harrisburg with her family by her bedside.
Avis was born in Harrisburg, PA, daughter of the late John E. Clark and Anna Mary Clark-Jackson. Avis received her formal education from John Harris High School, graduating in 1959. After graduation she received her degree in Nursing from Morgan State College in Baltimore, MD. She was employed by the Pennsylvania State Hospital System and later retired after working for more than 30 years at the Pennsylvania Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Company as a Claims Supervisor. She was a devoted member and trustee of Christian Life Center CLG.
Avis loved watching sports. Her favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia 76ers. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling to tournaments. Avis loved family holiday gatherings.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather Louis A. Jackson Sr., her siblings Elder Joanne L. Mays, Charles F. Clark, and brother Taylor Jackson. She leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life, her loving husband of 63 years, Robert W. Chapman Sr., her loving son, Robert W. Chapman Jr.; her loving siblings, Elder Laura E. Turns-Thomas, Evelyn Holmes (Richard); Louis A. Jackson Jr.; her special niece and goddaughter Celeste Holmes; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
