Archie Spruill Harris

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose Archie Spruill Harris was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, on January 24, 1928. He was one of four children born to his loving parents, Sterling, Sr. and Eva Harris of Littleton, North Carolina. He answered God's call to eternal rest on Monday, March 17, 2008. His formal education was received in public schools of Halifax and Warren counties, where he attended McIver and John R. Hawkins High School. After attending St. Augustine College in North Carolina, he went on to serve in the United States Army including a tour in Korea. After moving with his family to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Archie was employed by the U.S. Post Office until his retirement. Archie received many compliments for his "Chef" wizardry, and loved preparing meals for his family. When he wasn't cooking you could most often find him rooting for his favorite sports team. He was preceded in death by his adored wife, Alice Harris; his sister, Lalla Mills; and his twin brother, Sterling Harris, Jr. Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Darwin Harris (Carmen) of Harrisburg, Deborah Johnson (Schenthal) of Woodbridge, VA, Sylvia Carr (M.L.) of Weston, MA, and Rosilyn Harris of Philadelphia; and his devoted sister, Dora Whitsett (Bernard); and a host of beloved grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. A service in his honor will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Friday, March 21, 2007 at 12 Noon, viewing at 11:00 a.m. with internment at Blue Ridge Memorial Garden. The family is greatly appreciative for all the acts of kindness shown to them during their time of bereavement
